Credit Cards
The majority of credit cards and or credit card systems originate from the first Diners Club card, which was introduced in 1950. This card had an annual fee which was billed on either a monthly or yearly basis.
Not only is there the standard credit card type, nowadays there are a multitude of credit cards and types of credit cards, including:
- Student credit cards
- Cash-back Credit Cards
- Reward Credit Cards
- Travel or Airline Credit Cards
- Pre-paid Credit Cards
The above list is only a short list of available credit cards that can be acquired in the UK at present. There are loads of UK credit card providers that are waiting for you to use their cards.
One of the major benefits that a credit card brings along is that the consumer can track transactions and expenses. This is only one benefit a credit card brings, other credit card benefits include:
- Ease of use
- Purchase power and protection
- Credit score growth
- Emergency cash / credit
- Airline miles
- Reward schemes
Due to the majority of credit cards being accepted worldwide, the UK limits the amount a consumer can be held liable for in the case a credit card is stolen and used in fraudulant transactions.
Before you consider getting a credit card, you should think carefully about the consequences if you can't pay your credit card bill(s). Not being able to pay the debt on the credit card can lead to financial problems.
Your credit card allows you to "buy now pay later" which can be a pitfall for some. Looking at the latest toys, electric goods etc. and thinking "why not, I can pay later" is for many consumers an enticement that can't be resisted.
No matter what you do with a credit card you are charged for doing so, picking up money from an ATM means that you pay daily interest on the amount of money withdrawn till you pay it back.
Before getting a credt card, no matter who you are or what reason you need the credit card, always ask or request information about the credit card that best suits your financial needs and pay-back requirements.
